Dave Barnes, navigating on a road rally for the first time in almost twenty years, guided Gwyn Reynolds-Jones to the overall award on Rhyl & District MC’s J D Romain Novices Rally.
The rally was only open to non-Expert crews, with just Novices and Beginners eligible for overall awards.
Baz Green/Dave Jones swapped their normal seating arrangement for the event and, despite a slipping clutch, were the fastest crew of the night, finishing over a minute clear of Peter Roberts/Dale Furniss, to take the Semi-Expert class award.
Tegid Evans/Frank Steele-Mortimer led the battle of the Novices at the petrol halt but Reynolds-Jones/Barnes overhauled them in the second half to win by just over thirty seconds. Mark Thomas/Jamie Evans took third place on what was the navigator’s first ever rally of any type.
Charlene Williams/Hannah Jones were the last car away but came home first in the Beginners’ class.
