Powerush Rally

Borough 18 Motor Club

2nd/3rd October 2004

Clerk of the Course: Doug Kingsley

Route: 160 Miles

Maps: 179 & 189

Starters: 20

Winners: Phil Kendall/Dave Coles (Peugeot 309 GTi)

Phil Kendall/Dave Coles took victory on Borough 18 MC’s Powerush Rally, Kendall having won the event in the navigator’s seat in 2003. The previous year’s winning driver, Andy Coshan, took the runner up spot with John Stringer on the maps.

Kendall/Coles had built up a six minute lead by the petrol halt and stretched this to sixteen by the Finish. Dave Hughes/Andy Gibson brought their Volvo Amazon in third and were the leading Semi-Expert crew.

Ian Mepham/Bob Blows were the quickest crew of the night, cleaning the pre-plot sections in the North Downs and Romney Marsh, but they missed to record a code board and thus saw thirty minutes added to their time, they finished fourth.

Having been slowed by a broken gearbox mounting, Dominic Worsfold/Matt Fowle retired with fuel problems - they filled up with diesel not petrol at the halfway halt. Meanwhile Simon Bush/John Upham withdrew after picking up a wrong approach at a control. The scenery claimed two victims; James Firth/Ed Butler ended their night with their BMW in a ditch and Leila Thompson/Rob Thompson collided with a fence in their Peugeot 306.

Chin/Linda O'Connell picked up a puncture on the Gliding Club White and had to cut route to keep within their time limit; they finished in tenth place.

Christopher Winter/Gary O’Grady won the Novice class, while the Newcomers section went to Richard Millbank/Neal Allsopp.
