Winners: Roger Holder/Matthew Maidment (Ford Sierra 4x4)
Roger Holder/Matthew Maidment took their maiden rally win on Ecurie Cymraeg’s unique Twilight Road Rally. The event used the roads at the Caerwent military base plus gravel tracks at Chepstow Park Wood.
Holder/Maidment finished seven minutes clear of the a trio of crews who all ended with thirteen minutes penalty, they had to be separated on the furthest clean principle. This allowed Andrew James/Iestyn ap Dafydd to take the runner up spot, ahead of Chris Smith-Bowen/Ian Cook, who were using an Opel Manta loaned from Clive Bayliss.
The third crew on 13 minutes were Gary Jones/Steve Herbert, they were classified fourth after losing a large amount of time early on when a rotor arm broke on their Corolla.
John Davies/Neil Bevan had led initially after cleaning the first two visits to Caerwent, but they were forced out after hitting a kerb on the third section. Owen Turner/Graham Raeburn were early casualties after their Metro’s suspension broke.
Andrew Lewis/Dave Bradley won the Semi-Expert class, while Steven Lloyd/Gareth Lloyd were the leading Novices.
