1st/2nd May 2010
Clerk of the Course: Iwan Jones
Route: 100 Miles
Maps: 125 & 126
Starters: 75
Winners: Phil Turner/Wyn Roberts (Ford Escort)
Despite a lengthy layoff Phil Turner showed that he had not lost any of his driving skill as he and navigator Wyn Roberts decimated the opposition on the Border 100.
The pair had built up a two minute lead by the time crews reached the petrol halt and had extended this to three minutes by the Finish. Top seeds Richard Jerman/Dale Furniss took the runner up spot, a position they held all night.
Ian ‘Dude’ Roberts/Edward Venville, Hywel Davies/Richard Morris and Mark ‘GT’ Roberts/Steve Price were all delayed on a white in the critical Trout Valley section when the Escort of Dafydd Evans/Carl Jones came to a halt and blocked the road.
The three crews dropped varying amounts of time and the incident probably determined who finished in third at the end.
Glyn Price/Dylan Jenkins lost time early on when a plug lead came loose and they finished in sixth.
Darren Hunt/Clive Jones won the Semi-Expert class despite dropping eight minutes when they, along with other crews, were held up after Chris Wynn/Ashley Wynn hit a tree in their 205.
Experienced navigator Steve Herbert took the driver’s seat and was guided by youngster Steffan Llywelyn to a convincing Novice Class win.
