Daniel Jones took his second Welsh Championship victory of the year when he and reigning Champion Dale Furniss won the Night Owl.
This year’s series has developed into a three way battle between the drivers of a set of mega-Escorts. The Night Owl confirmed this with Jones, Meirion Evans and Gethin Morgan taking the top three positions. Their pace being such that even the local crew of Clive Williams/Patrick Walsh on top form couldn’t keep in touch.
Jones/Furniss shared the lead with 26 other crews after they all dropped a minute on the opening section, but the pair then pulled out a lead of 17 seconds over Meirion Evans/Dale Bowen by Petrol. This was extended to 33 seconds at the Finish.
Bro Teifi winners Gethin Morgan/Steve Herbert were in fifth at the halfway point but took third at the close just 11 seconds behind Evans/Bowen.
Richard Rees/Rob Walters were fourth at Petrol from a start number of 47, however they were unable to maintain the pace and dropped to 13th at the Finish.
Reian Jones/Michael Gilbey and Aled Humphreys/Richard Morris were having good runs but both ended on the retirement list, the latter crew breaking a shaft just four miles from the Finish.
