The Rali Bro Caron, Round 2 of the Welsh Championship, was won in emphatic style by Kevin Davies/Dale Bowen, making it the driver’s fourth series win in succession. At the halfway point there was a tight four-way fight for the lead between the eventual winners, Daniel Jones/Gerwyn Barry, Steffan ‘DR’ Jones/Michael Gilbey and Thomas Lewis/Dafydd-Sion Lloyd. However all of the three latter crews hit problems in the second half.
Jones/Barry broke a throttle cable and had to cut route to the Finish. Jones/Gilbey’s Escort developed a misfire soon after the restart and eventually had a cam follower break, while Lewis/Lloyd suffered a puncture on the last section. These problems allowed Mark ‘GT’ Roberts/Dylan Jenkins to move up from fifth at the halfway point to take the runner up spot at the end.
The win of the Expert Class had to be decided on a furthest clean tie-break after James Davies/George Eadon and George Williams/Richard ‘Tyson’ Morris finished on equal penalties. The former crew took the decision and sixth overall.
Last year’s winning driver John Davies was unable to start so loaned his car to Justin Davies, who teamed up with Aled Richards. Understandably they were not on the winner’s pace but still came in ninth.
With Kevin Davies looking unbeatable at the moment, his rivals for the Welsh title can only hope that work commitments may mean that the Llanfihangel-ar-arth driver cannot contest the whole series.
