Having lost victory on the 1999 Rali Llyn on a tie break, Ian Jones/Alan Williams took sweet revenge by taking a clear win on the 2000 event. The Harlech & District MC rally, a round of the North Western Championship, developed into a battle between three local crews.

Jones/Williams dropped only a second over the opening regularity section and this was enough for them to withstand a strong challenge over the rest of the rally from Carwyn Evans/Iestyn Williams. Evans/Williams dropped 24 seconds on the regularity but were only six seconds behind at the Finish.

Steven Roberts/Alan Jôs had won the event for the previous two years but weren't quite able to keep on the pace of the two leaders and could only managed third. They did however have the consolation of being the first North Western Championship crew home.

Perhaps the drive of the rally came from Howard Price/Gareth Price, they finished fourth, the first non-local crew and they might have been higher but for booking into a control early. Another local crew, Haydn Davies/Paul Roberts, completed the top five.

Bryan Glass, teaming up with Welsh Champion Navigator Carl Williamson for the first time, was on the pace all night, but unfortunately their Escort ground to a halt near the end with engine problems. Gerallt Davies/Michael Evans were the only other leading retirement, an engine mounting breaking on their hired Corolla as they tackled Rhiw Mountain.

Dave Jones/Paul Holmberg could only finish ninth after being delayed with a flat spotted tyre on their Sierra, the incident costing them five minutes. Tudor Morris/Gerallt Davies could have been higher than their eventual 12th place but dropped time when Davies had to get out and push start their Escort and when he got strapped back in, he couldn't find the cards. It took five minutes before the cards were found.

The win in the Semi-Expert class was also a battle between local crews with Gwylym Davies/Mona Japheth narrowly beating Elfed Williams/Ian Evans; Davies/Japheth took tenth place overall in the process.

There was a large entry in the Novice class with 31 crews starting, a majority of these being from the Harlech club. The class was eventually won by the two litre Ford Capri of Dylan Evans/Darren Garrod.

A full entry of 70 cars had started the rally, of these 55 made it to the Finish. The event was well received with crews relishing the challenging 140 mile route. The route, thanks to the maze of lanes on the Lleyn Peninsula, never strayed further than 15 miles from the start venue.
