NAVIGATOR - A vital component in any road rally car
It seems that drivers are obsessed with finding the latest component to give their road rally car that extra boost of performance. Usually this involves a fixation with engines, gearboxes, brakes or tyres. I’d like to suggest an item that really should be given serious consideration, it’s called Navigator.

RALI CILWENDEG - The MN Championship Years 1968 to 1987
For twenty years the Cilwendeg was a round of the Motoring News Road Rally Championship, the most prestigious competition that the sport has known. And for most of that time it was acknowledged as the premier event in the country. It was the only rally to have been a round of the championship for every year from 1968 to the demise of the series in 1987.

STICKY TAPE - Why the results team hate you
Today’s proposition is that Mr Snell, Mr Oace and Mr Eastwood of the 3M Company are amongst the greatest villains in World History. In January 1946, as if the previous six years of world warfare hadn’t caused enough misery, this trio invented electrical tape, a product that has become the most hated item in existence - well as far as Rally Results Teams are concerned anyway.

FOOT & MOUTH DISEASE - Why road rallying came to a halt in 2001
There is a point in H G Wells’ War of the Worlds where the author highlights that, as Martians land on Hersall Common, the normal activities of life continue in the nearby town, the people being unaware of the disaster that was about to befall them. JJ BROWN MEMORIAL RALLY 1987 - The end of the Motoring News Series

ENDURANCE RALLYING - A good concept that failed
The concept, the brainchild of Philip Young’s fertile mind, was developed at the turn of the Millennium. The announcement that there would be no endurance rally championship in 2016 was sad but far from unexpected news. The format has struggled for both competitors and events for most of its existence.

THE WORST RALLY CAR IN THE WORLD ... EVER - Our struggles with an RS2000
The car was a very second hand Mark One RS2000, registration HRH 339N. We’d previously been campaigning a 1.3 Escort, so this was our introduction to the big power league. I’ve still got its bonnet in the barn. I kick it every now again.

EAGLE RALLY 1998 - A daylight road rally before its time
As organisers we then went through a slow but logical thought process: Many road rallies are decided on sections that use tracks and forestry roads off the public highway; Why not run a rally with all competitive sections on private land? Despite a wide spread myth, there is no rule stopping the multiple use of roads on a road rally; Why not use somewhere, such as Sweet Lamb; We could use a number of 'laps' to bring the mileage up to an acceptable level? If there are no competitive sections on the public highway, why not run the event during the day?
