Mike Hart and 'Polly' swapped their regular driver and navigator roles and duly won the Starlight Novice Rally. The Wolverhampton & South Staffs CC event gave non-Expert crews a 116 mile route to tackle. Most coped well, with 21 of the 28 starters making it to the Finish.
Amongst those that failed to make it were Trevor Pritchard/Paul Hughes who put their Meastro off the road.
Hart/'Polly' cleaned the route except for the single timed to the second section and came home a minute and a half clear of Mike Bradley/Gareth Hall, with Paul Saunders/Erik West a further minute behind.
The top novice crews filled positions six to eight - Ian Jarman/Dave Lewis secured the class win, with Paul Price/Vicky Price and Duncan North/Steve Brown taking the other awards. The winners of the Beginners category, Simon Pinnock/John Moffatt, made it into tenth place, five places clear of their nearest rivals Richard Jordan/Robert Demand.
Unlike Hart other navigators turned drivers didn't fare as well - both Dave Pitchford/Richard Askew and Andy Oakes/Dean George finished well down the field after picking up three fails each. Top seeds and 1999 winners Mike Harrison/Andrew Rousell never featured after losing nine minutes with a puncture on the first section.
