Dylan Davies/Dale Furniss secured the Welsh Championship title by taking victory on the Farrington Trophy Rally.
The event ran in wintery conditions with sleet and snow making the going slippery and causing large penalties to be accumulated. The final 40 mile loop of the rally had to be abandoned after a non-related road accident blocked the A525.
For the first half of the rally Davies/Furniss were in a tight fight for the lead with Arwel Hughes-Jones/Michael Gilbey. The latter pair had led initially but the eventual winners had eased out a small lead by Petrol. The matter was decided soon after the restart when Hughes-Jones/Gilbey had a two minute wrong slot, this saw them fall to third at the Finish.
Ian Lloyd/Cyril Jones had won the Farrington twice in the last three years, on both occasions they had secured the win with a late charge, this year it looked that they might repeat the feat, however the cancellation of the final sections, which took in the crew’s home territory, scuppered that hope and they had to settle for second.
It was a good night for the seeding committee as nine of the top ten starters took top ten finishing positions.
