Clerk of the Course: Dave Howells
Route: 140 Miles
Maps: 160 + Walters Arena
Starters: 70
Winners: Richard Jerman/Iwan Jones (Ford Escort)
Richard Jerman/Iwan Jones led for most of the event to take the win on the Camsport 1000 Lanes Road Rally. The rally started with three tests through Walter’s Arena. Jerman/Jones put in a near perfect performance on the first regularity through the Rally GB venue, picking up just a one second penalty. However, due to technical problems, all time penalties had to be cancelled for the test, as a result the eventual winners trailed Daniel Jones/Dale Furniss by a second after the next run.
Jerman/Jones got back in front on the final Arena section and maintained the position over the night leg, which for the leading crews was largely cleanable.
Their task was made a little easier as the three crews in second, third and fourth after Walter’s failed to finish. Jones/Furniss were excluded for a give way offence, while Robert Wilson/Dylan Jenkins killed their engine in the Coelbren Dam Ford and Matthew Maidment/Garth Powell had the coil melt just before the petrol halt.
Howard Price/Carl Williamson took the runner up spot with Hywel Davies/Richard Morris in third. Both crews adding useful scores to their Welsh Championship tally.
Steven John Williams/Lowri Davies, John Davies/Eurig Davies and Reian Jones/Michael Gilbey lost out on top places after picking up fails.RESULTS
