Meirion Evans/Iwan Jones took a resounding win on the Rali Mike Darowen, finishing two minutes ahead of Dafydd Evans/Carl Jones, who in turn were six minutes in front of the rest of the field.
Competing in his first road rally in over twenty years Gwyndaf Evans showed that he hadn’t lost any of his skill in the discipline. Driving an Escort loaned by Howard Price and with Dale Funiss on the maps, the former British Champion led the rally by 30 seconds at Petrol. Unfortunately his event came to an end against a post in the Dolgellau Maze soon after the restart.
With their only rivals for victory out of the event Evans/Jones powered through to take their first win of the year.
Top seeds Meilyr Evans/Andrew Roberts were fastest on the first section but an off on ‘Kings’ cost them 27 minutes and despite matching the winners pace for the rest of the night they finished well down the order.
Osian Pryce/Iestyn Williams took the Under 1400cc award in their MG, while Ed Pugh/Phil Pugh retired on the second section.
