Starters: 66
Winners: Meirion Evans/Iwan Jones (Ford Escort)
Meirion Evans/Iwan Jones took their seventh victory of the season on the Pacemaker Rally. A minute lost with a wrong slot didn’t stop them recording another dominant win, coming home 90 seconds ahead of the field. The win puts them in a commanding position in the Welsh Championship, only disastrous runs on the three remaining rounds of the series combined with consistent high scores from their nearest rival can now stop them.
Those challengers took second, third and fourth places. Mark ‘GT’ Roberts/Dale Bowen won the close battle for the runner up spot, beating Richard Jerman/Lowri Davies by 16 seconds. A couple of minor over shoots was enough to drop Ian ‘Dude’ Roberts/Gwawr Hughes from third at Petrol to fourth at the Finish.
Llyr Williams/Ceri Hughes suffered a setback in their championship campaign as a broken shaft saw them retire for the first time this year.
Top seeds Daniel Jones/Dale Furniss suffered a time consuming off in the first half which put them in tenth at Petrol before a throttle cable melted through in the second half and put them out of the rally.
Mike Roberts/Tom Pile were the only Novice crew to survive the demanding but perfectly timed rally.
