Mark ‘GT’ Roberts made it two wins in successive weekends as he followed up the previous week’s Night Owl success with victory on the Border 100 Rally last Saturday night. The event once again turned into a battle between ‘GT’/Steve Price, last year’s winners, and Ian ‘Dude’ Roberts/Gwawr Hughes. The latter crew led initially but had fallen behind by the end of the second section; they kept the fight up for the whole rally but still ended the night 26 seconds down.
Despite brake and gearbox problems Phil Turner/Owen Dodd managed to keep the battling Golfs within reach during the first half, but they retired at Petrol with the navigator unwell.
The drive of the rally came from Gareth Rhys Jones/Aron Jones, in a 1300cc Corsa, who finished third after a titanic battle with two crews with local knowledge - Geraint Parkes/Huw Manion and Gary Roberts/Rob Leeman - to take third.
