Clerk of the Course: Guy Woodcock
Route: 135 Miles. 7 Regularities + 13 Tests
Maps: 116 & 117
Starters: 67
Winners: Howard Warren/Iain Tullie (Porsche 911 Coupe)
The Clwyd Vale Classic saw the perennial bridesmaid finally become the bride in the unlikely shape of Howard Warren. On all the previous three runnings of the event Warren had finished in second place, in 2014 he finally made it to the winner’s podium. His success was in no small part due to navigator Iain Tullie as the rally once again proved a tough test for the man on the maps and tripmeter.
The decisive section proved to be the fourth regularity section where it took careful analysis to work out the correct route, only 35 crews achieved this, the others missed out a Time Control as a result of their miscalculation.
A steady run saw Charles Colton/Ryan Pickering move up through the field as the day progressed to finished in second. Peter Welch/Richard Bestwick were third and won the Experts class, with Bestwick taking honours for the least penalties picked up on the event’s seven regularity sections.
