The Myotis Navigational Rally

Devizes & District Motor Club

19th/20th April 2014

Clerk of the Course: Dave Bardwell

Tests: 130 Miles

Maps: 173, 174 & 184

Starters: 47

Winners: Mark Turner/Richard Pashley (Proton Coupe)

Mark Turner/Richard Pashley took a clear win on a demanding Myotis Rally on Saturday night. Almost the entire route of this unique event utilised the military roads on Salisbury Plain. Dust was an issue and led to the scrubbing of the latter sections of the first half as, due to visibility problems, tests were unable to be run at 30 second intervals; this caused delays and led to crews cutting route to remain within their time limit.

Roger Holder/Peter Barnard led Chris Stratton/Martin Moore by 14 seconds at Petrol but both crews were to retire after the restart. Turner/Pashley missed a code board in the second half but the resultant ten minute penalty didn’t stop them taking the win.

Chris Elkins/Mark Appleton were almost four minutes behind in second place but had lost six minutes with an electrical problem towards the end of the event. Rob Fields/Nick Clarke had a consistent run, avoiding errors, and took third from a Start Number of 38.

Keith Jenkins/Tony Brooks were fifth in their unloved Volvo, taking the Historic Award in the process.

Top seeds Phil Harris/Liam Burns had an unhappy night having to cut route in both halves after their Mitsubishi developed mechanical problems.
