Mark ‘GT’ Roberts/Dylan Jenkins won a tough and demanding Night Owl Rally, where only 27 of the 88 starters were classified as finishers. Eighteen crews were excluded for give way offences at various junctions along the route.
While others struggled, the event proved to be a triumph for the leading Welsh Championship crews as they filled the top positions.
Despite losing a minute to their rivals on an early section, Reian Jones/Michael Gilbey arrived at Petrol with a narrow lead over the eventual winners. However they lost five minutes in the second half after incorrectly plotting a control; they finished in eighth.
Ian ‘Dude’ Roberts/Gwawr Hughes were only seven seconds behind Jones/Jenkins at the halfway point; they had reduced this to just one second when they picked up a puncture and lost a minute. This decided the result, with Roberts/Jenkins winning by 48 seconds.
Mark Jukes/Dafydd Sion-Lloyd held a two minute lead in the Semi-Expert Class when they went off the road and out of the event in the second half.
