Winners:Carwyn Evans/Dylan John Williams (Ford Escort)
Carwyn Evans/Dylan John Williams finished the Merfyn Hughes Memorial Rali Llyn with a victory margin of over a minute however this didn’t entirely reflect the story of the event.
Top seeds Arwel Hughes-Jones/Edryd Evans led after the opening two sections but their Escort then ground to a halt with ignition problems. The lead then passed to Andrew Jones/Max Freeman who arrived at Petrol 25 seconds ahead of Tom Edwards/Ianto Jones. Neither of these crews were destined to finish in top positions.
Jones/Freeman finished the rally with least time penalties but picked up two fails for errors in recording PC signatures. Edwards/Jones bent their steering rack in the second half and were forced to cut the route.
The eventual winners were in third at Petrol, tied with Dewi Williams/Dale Bowen. The latter crew were to retire soon after the restart while Evans/Williams put their foot down and closed the gap to Jones/Freeman to 18 seconds. This meant that they took the win after the erstwhile leaders picked up two fails.
Steve ‘Bach’ Roberts/Dafydd Evans took second place two minutes ahead of a gaggle of Welsh Championship contenders, these were led by Mark ‘GT’ Roberts/Dylan Jenkins.
