Starters: 70
For the first time in its twenty-three year history the Rali Bro Preseli was not oversubscribed, in fact only 70 cars, from a potential 75, took the start. This was largely due to the difficulty that young and less experienced drivers had in finding insurance. As a result, there were no entries in the Beginners Class. This left just Semi-Experts and Novices on the starters list, as Expert crews were excluded from the event.
However, as usual on the Bro Preseli previous winners were invited back to act as a guide to the current crop of competitors; there were two such crews in 2026, these were Geraint Davies/Martin Richards (Seat Ibiza), the navigator having won in 2025, and Dafydd-Sion Lloyd/Harvey Jukes (Toyota Corolla). The latter proved to be the fastest team of the night, dropping time at just three controls and finishing over a minute ahead of the field. However, this was immaterial as these cars weren't eligible for overall or class awards.
There wasn't a gentle introduction to the 2026 Bro Preseli, from the Crymych start there was a short run out with the first section beginning just to the east of the base. A run through the tracks at Pencwarre farm saw everyone drop at least a minute at the first time control. Fastest here was the Ford Fiesta of Owain Rees/Sion Penfold, they were two seconds quicker than Llyr Davies/Dilwyn John (Renault Clio) and four ahead of Arfon Jones/Chris Hill (Subaru Impreza).
Most crews dropped further time at the first time control on the second section, this was on Llanwinio Common. Rees/Penfold maintained their lead as they were the only one of the leading runners to reach the TC on time. Behind them Davies/John dropped eight seconds, but were two seconds faster than Jones/Hill.
Jamie Evans/Wyn Mathias (Ford Escort) were also clean at TC2 and this moved them up from sixth to fourth place. Thomas Jones/Emyr Evans (Peugeot 206) should have been in seventh place at this point, but they had failed to get two code boards counter-signed at TC1, this attracted a penalty of a fail per board; the crew withdrew at Petrol when they became aware of their mistake.
Most of the leading runners were clean at TC4, which was after a passage through the twisty lanes at Cwmbach, the exception were Davies/John, who were two seconds late at the control. This meant that Rees/Penfold now held a lead of 12 seconds, while Jones/Hill were only two seconds behind Davies/John.
The top crews were clean as the route moved westwards towards Llanglydwen. However, the section did see a change of leaders as Rees/Penfold were forced out by a failed gearbox on their Fiesta.
Only a few were clean at TC7, which was timed to the second, Jones/Hill were one of these and this put them into the lead, three seconds ahead of Evans/Mathias and Davies/John, who were now tied for second place.
The course moved southwards to the lanes around Login, but none of the leaders dropped any more time before the petrol halt, which was taken at Glandy Cross. The top positions remained the same as they had been at TC7, with the first three separated by just three seconds. This trio were pulling away from the field as Josh Clarkey/Gethin Jones (Renault Clio) in fourth were fourteen seconds off the lead, but, in turn, were nineteen seconds ahead of fifth placed Lucas Adams/Joanna Bond-James (Vauxhall Chevette).
The second half started with two short sections, the first a four minuter from Pant-y-Caws to Garnwen Farm. The second one was a five minuter on the other side of the A478 around Mynachlogddu, with a run through a quarry at the end.
Davies/John were six seconds quicker than Jones/Hill through the two tests and emerged with the lead, ending three seconds ahead of the Subaru pair.
The fifth section saw the demise of Evans/Mathias, they went off the road in a farmyard at Llwyndwfr and went no further. This incident blocked the farm track and led to the cancellation of the following time control and three Passage Controls.
The whole fifth section was almost fifteen miles long and contained five time controls. The leading duo only dropped time at the final TC; Jones/Hill moved back into first place as they were 35 seconds quicker than Davies/John. This saw the latter crew drop to third behind Dion Lewis/Gethin Dafis (Vauxhall Corsa), who had been best to SF5.
Later on, the lane leading to this TC was blocked by a car going off the road and six crews, who were delayed by the blockage, were awarded nominal times for the section.
The final standard section ran through Henry's Moat, Trebengych and Rhosfach, before finishing near Llangolman.
The top three cars were late at just one of the four TCs on the section and were just a second apart, meaning that Jones/Hill came home with a victory margin of 18 seconds over Lewis/Dafis, with Davies/John 15 seconds further back in third place. There was then over a minute to fourth placed Iwan Rees/Jason Nicholls (Subaru Impreza).
The leading Novice crew were Gethin Evans/Shauna Phillips (Vauxhall Corsa), who finished in 14th place overall. Forty-seven crews made it to the finish at the newly rebuilt Caffi Becca at Efailwen.
